We are pleased to call all those people with an interest in creativity and innovation to join is in Canterbury (UK) on the 11-12th of September 2017 to attend the 'Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Education 2017' (TIE'17). The conference.  conference aims to gather a cross-disciplinary audience to explore the process of creativity and innovation and learn from each other, how cross-fertilization of practices from more than one discipline can benefit the creative process. Being of an interdisciplinary mindset, the conference takes a broad view of application areas, ranging across technology, business, education, social and political sectors. In keeping with the title, the conference will be organised around four themes, namely Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Education (see below) although we are open to  proposals for special tracks or workshops in other areas.

The event will consist of regular of regular conference papers, poster sessions, workshops, keynote speakers and networking sessions (offered as part of regular refreshment breaks) together with an optional gala dinner all set in the beautiful setting of Canterbury, a UNESCO its World Heritage Site renowned throughout the world as a seat of learning and the development of Christianity.

Scope & Topics

We call for research papers, practical reports, case studies or creative contributions (including design fictions, science fiction prototypes etc)  from different disciplines that cover the following perspectives:

In the area of Technology:

  • Technological change and development in engineering,
  • Computer science and big data
  • AI and mixed reality technology
  • Internet of Things
  • Future technology applications

        For example, the following questions might be addressed:

  • What is the impact of Internet of Things on changing future product development strategy?
  • Might the advancement of artificial intelligence lead to the destruction of humanity?
  • Will the development of robotics technology replace the human jobs? What are the implications and challenges for education, employability and the labour market following the maturity of robotic technology?

In the area of Innovation:

  • The economics of science, research or R&D, and technology
  • Policy and R&D management
  • Organisational innovation: the resource-based view of firm, dynamic capabilities, absorptive capability, core competences and organisational learning
  • Sociology of innovation: the diffusion of innovations, innovation and sustainability, environment policy

For example, the following questions might be addressed:

  • How do we distinguish between 'innovation', 'adaption' and 'change'?
  • What are the similarities and differences about the innovation process in large corporations and small firms?
  • How can leaders motivate their staff to be creative and innovative?
  • Are there golden rules of innovation?

In the area of Entrepreneurship:

  • New venture creation: new opportunities in technological change, , creative marketing, product development, networking & resources. 
  • New venture funding and support: sources, innovation hubs and accelerator programmes
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship: new technology-based product management, entrepreneurial orientation and innovation strategy, competitive advantage
  • Creativity: employee creativity, creative process in organisations, methodologies and tools to promote and facilitate creative idea generation
  • Firm growth and innovation: SMEs’ growth and development, innovation management and the role of technology in firm growth

         For example, the following questions might be addressed:

  • Do current government policies promote or handicap entrepreneurship?
  • Are entrepreneurship process different in emerging markets?
  • What factors are contributing to the growth of female entrepreneurship?
  • What is the change in the resources needed for entrepreneurship in a Digital Age?
  • Are the financial barriers to entrepreneurial start-up changed with the emergence of crowd funding networks? What are the challenges and implications to financial institutions?
  • Why do the majority of small firms fail to grow?

In the area of Education:

  • How to teach creativity to students?
  • Effective approaches for teaching problem solving and entrepreneurship
  • Pedagogical principles and methods in teaching entrepreneurial orientation and intention
  • Cross discipline teaching methods and experiments

        For example, the following questions might be addressed:

  • Is creativity teachable? How do we measure creativity?
  • How can we effectively teach the art elements of entrepreneurship, such as determination, tenacity and entrepreneurial orientation?
  • How would we move from pedagogy to andragogy in cross disciplinary teaching?
  • How effectively can we apply VR technology in teaching?
  • Are there differences when we use VR to teach business & management or art students when compared with science and engineering groups?

Paper Submission

Papers should be submitted through EAI 'Confy' system at Confy, and have to comply with the SPRINGER format (see Author's kit section).

Papers will be judged on originality, correctness, clarity and relevance. Submitted papers must be original work, and may not be under consideration for another conference or journal. Submission of the paper implies agreement of the author(s) to attend the conference and present the paper if accepted. Full details of submission procedures are available here.

Publication

The event is endorsed by the European Alliance for Innovation, a leading community-based organisation devoted to the advancement of innovation in the field of ICT.

All accepted papers will be published by Springer and made available through SpringerLink Digital Library, one of the world's largest scientific libraries.

Proceedings are submitted for inclusion to the leading indexing services: EI Elsevier, ISI Thomson's Scientific and Technical Proceedings at Web of Science, Scopus, CrossRef, Google Scholar, DBLP, as well as EAI's own EU Digital Library (EUDL).

Accepted authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their work through the following EAI endorsed publications: EAI Endorsed Transactions on Industrial Networks and Intelligent Systems

Best Paper Award

The program committee will select one of the accepted papers as the “TIE'17 Best Paper Award”. The winner(s) will be announced during the conference.

Gene Dolgoff  (creator of the Startrek Holodeck concept) and Prof Richard Scase (former winner of the prestigious European Business Speaker of the Year Award)
